Second day of the final cremation ceremony ritual

Second day ritual is also another precious day of my our Mukur Cremation ceremony ritual . After done the first ritual process on the first day , now we continue the second day of the ritual . Two ritual program which start at 09 :00 , first we call ” Ngangget Don Bingin ” and second is called ” Ngajum Sekah ” .

As explained on my article on the first day of Memukur Ceremony . Memukur Ceremony is a continuation of Ngaben ( cremation Ceremony ) . Memukur words also coming from Words Bhukur , this words common we hear in some old inscription during the Majapahit Kingdom Era . The Hindu Kingdom who rules over a whole Indonesia archipelago around 12 – 15 century . The center of this Kingdom was in east Java Island .

So back from the meaning of Memukur Ceremony is the second phase of cremation ceremony Ritual as a purification of the spirit ( Atma ) . A sanctification of Atma ( spirit ) to be separate from delicate body in the form of human nature and its desire in order to be bland with the creator and become ancestor deity ( holly spirit ) . Usually this ritual doesn’t have to be after the cremation ceremony but can be a few years after . Its depending on our ability , which the cost for this ritual is so high . So with new regulation of our wise Balinese Hindu department that allow us to do a mass Memukur Ceremony Ceremony ritual . In this case the cost will be shared among all the participant and can be reasonable for everyone to do this ritual process .

1 . Ngangget Don Bingin

This ritual is the first ritual on our second day program . Ngangget don Bingin , Ngangget in our Balinese language mean to pick using knife . Don Bingin is the leave of the Banyan three . Why banyan three ? Because in Hindu Banyan three is the secret three , the three of the heaven . And also the leaves of Banyan three is a symbol of holiness , therefore the Banyan three is taking a part of Hindu ceremony in Bali island .

Time when we picking the Banyan three leaves and participants are waiting bellow the threes with long white cloth . Catch the leaves and trying to don’t lets the leaves drop on the ground . While we doing it we will walk around the threes , clock wise direction for tree times .

During this rituals all participants of the Mukur Cremation ceremony Ritual will do praying by the Banyan Three lead by the Monk . After praying than we continue with picking the leaves of the threes . This leaves is a Symbol of the spirit body for the one who will be done the ceremony . That will arrange in a such way to be a Symbol of the spirits which is call Sekah .

Bringing the leaves to the altar to process the accordingly . The woman are welcoming them with performing traditional Balinese dance , Pendet dance ( the welcoming dance ) .

2 . Ngajum Sekah

After we the picking of the leaves than we bring them in the place we do the ceremony . There’s a big altar where all the leadership , monks will prepare the leaves to be arranged . Najum Sekah in an easy words mean to decorate ”Sekah ” ( the symbol of the spirits ) . After ”Sekah ” decorated like a human body than we places back in the ceremony altar .

The second day of the Cremation Ceremony ritual done and the next day ( third day ) is a silent day also call Penyepen . The silent day here mean , there’s no activity during the day . But all the participants will have to stay a whole 24 hours near the ceremony altar . Stay for the spirits that we would like to do the ceremony , give them offering 3 times a day and never forget to light the incense , to replace them all the time whenever finish . Normally a whole of our family will take a part and make rotation who ever will stay . But since I am the only son I will have to do my self and stay almost 24 hours . My wife only come to replace if I need to go back home for showers during the morning time and the evening .

Exploring Tenganan Bali Ancient Village

Our great tour to Tenganan Bali Ancient village and some other places in the eastern part of Bali . It was a great experience indeed , exploring the beauty of the eastern part of Bali . So many beautiful attraction to see and few days will not enough to explore the island .

Today with our clients from Finland , . This is our second days of our Bali Tour program . Our first and very interesting stop is at Tenganan Bali ancient village . Small village located in the east Bali . The remaining one of the oldest village who still strictly keeping their own tradition .

Once we enter the village , we will welcomed by some of the villagers who introduce their skill as a painter . An ancient painting style using the traditional paper from the palm leave .

Tenganan Bali ancient Village

Tenganan Bali Ancient village is also known as Bali Aga . We call them Bali Aga which is mean original Balinese village with the villagers who still strictly apply their ancient rules . And the peoples who live there is the first Bali generation who occupied Bali island .This rules is referring to our concept of Tri Hita Karana . The concept of how keeping all things in balance . A good relationship between human and God , Human and environment and human and human . The village area are setup accordingly and all the houses for living are built in specific area with the same architecture . Temples , meeting place are built according the rules of how they maintain the balance with the environment . Amazingly every persons who live in this village are fully respect with the village rules that they have .

This view you might not only see in this village but all around the island . Roaster in the cage , they are isolated and trained to be a fighter for cockfighting even .

Story o Tenganan Bali Ancient Village or Tenganan Pagringsingan

According to fairy tale how this village build , Back to Bali Kingdom era when Bedahulu is the center of Bali Kingdom who rules entire Bali area . Bedahulu now is known as a village near Ubud village . the story begin when the King lost of his beloved Kingdom’s horse , a white horse . The King tell to anyone who can find his horse will have his and the kingdom reward to be the most loyal person . Finally one of his loyal servant , Ki Tunjung Biru found his horse died in the east of Bali . For his dedication the King give him a reward to be a free man and give a land also bring his follower to live in that land as an autonomy village . The king allowed him to claim the land as far as he can smell the the dead body of the horse .

Some other picture that I took during our day trip in the village . As a guide , this is not my first time but every time I visit this place , always bring home some great pictures in a different moment .

Ki Tunjung Biru is a smart person , he cut the dead body of the horse into few pieces than spread the pieces of the horse’s body as far as he can throw . So as far as they can smell the dead body of the horse become the area of the village , with his intelligent he even have more bigger land to claim . This village has its own autonomy rules , even still under the Kingdom territory .

The girls from the village with their traditional dress , Pagringsingan clots . We don’t see this during a normal day but only during the village festival or Temple ceremony .

While Pagringsingan taking from the special cloth that only produce by the villager there . Its a special cloth of traditional woven who taking such a long process . 1 piece of cloth can take 2 until 3 years to make , its such a long process from taking the color from the forest until finish . All the color is a natural color from growing plants and take with rituals process . Its important to select a good day to get the color material forest . This unique process make this cloth is special and Bali peoples believes that this cloth has special spiritual power to protect the owner who wearing the cloth . In Balinese words Geringsing from word Gering which is mean epidemic of a disease , while sing mean no .

We also invited to visit their house and learn how they make the cloth , Pagringsingan clots . All done by hand and passion .

Primary school in the village . The only school for a whole villagers , for high school the kids have to go outside the village which is not far from the village .

Spending Sunset at Seminyak Beach

I don’t know exactly when this pictures was taken . We were spending our sunset at Seminyak beach but I almost forget when it was . We’ve been here so many times , since our house just about 20 minutes drive from Seminyak Beach . Yes we are so lucky to live close to the world famous beach spot in Bali Island .

Seminyak village is a small village under Kuta region , a very famous village for all the tourist activity . From the location , Seminyak village is a very best spot for tourist to stay and spend their vacation in Bali Island . This place offer a best shopping street along the Seminyak main street and also best place for hanging around , find a good restaurant or spending a whole day long on the white sand beach . Further north of Seminyak Villlage there’s a new growing street for all the tourist activity . Its call Oboroi street , isn’t a new street but now has become the busiest street for tourism activity . All you can do along this street is shopping , eating and also find a good place for drink .

Yes Seminyak village known as a paradise for shopping , all thus branded clothing outfit from many famous designer . Other than that you also may find some handicraft or souvenir items to bring home even not much as in Ubud Village . See our Ubud tour Here

Having fun is simple , just spend few $ and we can enjoy the beautiful atmosphere sitting on the bean bag on the sand . Few drinks and light food , than we can stay until we want to leave .

Alright lets get back to the main topic of our experience spending our sunset at Seminyak beach . My wife is actually working at one of shopping mall in Seminyak and usually she comeback home around 5 pm . That day was our unplanned date and decide to come to Seminyak Beach which is just 20 minutes from our house . We both love traveling but since we can’t afford it , why don’t we enjoy the place near by around us . Fortunately we are Balinese , the most famous tourist spot is just in our home where we live . We just don’t realize that it just like what the peoples said ‘ We could see ant across the sea but not able to see Elephant in front of our eyes ‘ .

So we drove with our motorbike through Seminyak street and enter to the small busy street toward Seminyak Beach . This street is Dyana Pura street , one of the very popular street in Seminyak . There are may big Hotel such as Courtyard Mariot , Anantara Hotel , the breezes and many more . Oh ya this street also known as Gay area . Not a whole street but along the street there are few pub or bar which is a place for Gay community . If we past in the night time we will see all thus interesting activity in that Bars such as fire dance , loud music and some interesting entertainment by them .

We arrive at the beach exactly before the sunset and park our motorbike and walk to the Seminyak Beach . Something strange feeling approaching my head , we feel stranger in our own country . The beach is full with peoples all around the world . Some of them are swimming on the sea , sitting down by the beach or having drink at the beach bar along the beach .I proud my self to be a part of this beautiful place . Yes Seminyak beach is one of the best beach in the world , wide beach which is stretching from Kuta , Legian , Leminyak , Kerobokan and also Canggu . The sand isn’t a white sand but slightly white and brown but not black sand like some other beach in Bali .

In Kintamani we stop at one of the restaurant which is located in the southern rim of the crater . That place offer amazing view of the Lake Batur and Volcano . Saba Dalem Bali Temple Ceremony at Menyali Village

On this article I would like to share my experience attending an unique village tradition of Saba dalem Bali Temple ceremony . This tradition could be not seen in another village , a yearly temple celebration at one of the trinity village Temple . The temple is call Pura Dalem , Temple where we worship the God on his manifestation as Lord Siva .

Saba Dalem Bali Temple Ceremony | Bali Culture and Tradition

Yes the only unique tradition which happening in my wife village . I feel such a lucky person to have her as my wife , she is beautiful and were born in a beautiful small village with very rich Hindu Bali Culture and tradition . Menyali village is one of village in the north Bali , lies on the slope of the mountain approximately 3 – 4 hours drive from Bali international airport . Most of the villager are a farmers and the loungers are working in the tourism industry in south Bali . Other than that for living the villagers has a great skill , talented of making a offering basket using Aluminum . This handicraft industry are growing fast and peoples founded a new design of not only for basket but other handicraft things from Aluminum .

Saba Dalem Bali Tradition — Man and Woman are involved for the offering preparation . Helping and work together is a great family tradition . This tradition bring them together in one day , be together as one big family even some of them are living away from the house compound.

So lets get back to our experience during Saba Dalem Bali Ceremony in my wife village . That day was on Saturday , 26th May . According to Bali Caka calendar is on the first day of the 12th month , the month call Asade ( the month number 12 ) . Caka cullender is a Hindu cullender which is using full moon rotation . During this day every family preparing their offering at home from morning time . Before that family will cook a special food for a whole of the family . A man will in charge to do all the cooking preparation , they start at early morning by slaughtering pork , chicken and preparing the vegetables . During this time a whole family will gather at the house compound , some of the family members who are living away from the village will also coming back home for this celebration .

To be a great man in Bali have to know how to cook also

Around 3 pm when the offering is done than family will bring the to the temple . Again the man have to carry the offering just in case our wife can’t handle it . But most of the man will do because the offering is such huge and also tall with various kind of fruits , some with soft drink can , Balinese cake and also meats . Here usually they make two offering , one offering with only fruits and cakes and the other one with grill meat of chicken or duck and also bailed egg , sate lilit . This offering will placed at the outer yard of the temple .

Why at the outer yard , not in the main yard of the Temple ?

This offering during Saba Dalem Bali Temple Ceremony is actually focusing to thankful to all our ancestor . We invite them to come , attending and enjoying the celebration . This offering is the way how we express our gratitude to all our ancestor . Every member of family will in charge to stay in front of the offering which is last until midnight . During this time also every person of the family member will come to pray to God in the main area of the temple . After that they will come to their family offering which is placed outside the main yard of the temple to pray to their ancestor .

Bali Ubud Kintamani Tour

Bali Ubud Kintamani tour is one of our highlight tour program . Today we had such a great day with Claudia & David from Ireland . Wonderful Bali full day trip to the best sightseeing route toward Ubud and Kintamani . Such a great whole day trip indeed .

Bali Ubud Kintamani Tour during our plan were start at 8 : 30 . We pick them up from The Villas , a luxurious accommodation in Seminyak . We drive toward Batubulan village . The first stop we made there , watching a traditional Balinese dance show . Barong and Kris dance is Balinese theatrical dance accompany with Balinese Gamelan . The dance narrated the story of Mahabharata evic story combine with local Balinese evic . Story of never ending fight of Good and evil . Barong is a lionship creature representing God form who fight with Rangda . Long hair and scary face is a form of Rangda as a quin of evil . The dance show were last for one hour duration with the entrance ticket 100.000 / person .

Ubud Monkey Forest

Our second stop during our Bali Ubud Kintamani Tour is at Monkey Forest . We had about 40 minutes walking around the forest , seeing they monkeys in their natural habital . Ubud Monkey Forest is a small conservation forest as a habitat of 700 monkeys . Friendly monkeys and get use to the people already . Sometimes jump on our shoulders for banana prize .

Some tips while we are there is

Avoid the eyes contact
Naver touch the monkeys
Don’t bring the food or mineral water on your hand
And lastly purchase the ticket .
If monkeys jump on you , don’t be panic .They will not harm you unless they offended .

Kintamani Village

We arrive at Kintamani Village around noon . The weather were perfect , clear and magnificent clean sky . We are lucky enough to see the amazing view of an active volcano and Lake Batur . Usually during the raining season its hard to get a best view of the crater . Kintamani village is a village located in the southern rim of the crater . The village is one of the best tourist destination for day trip , especially during the day time . A stop over area for lunch with great view of the crater . Most of the restaurant are serving Indonesian food and also magnificent view overlook the crater view . It was amazing stop indeed .

After Lunch we drive back to the south and made some stop at Coffee Farm for great coffee break stop and also visiting one of the ancient Temple , Sebatu Gunung Kawi Holly spring . Great stop at one of the villager farm for coffee testing and see various kind of plantation such as herbs , coffee threes , Cacao and some tropical fruits . Here we served by the owner to tray any kind of coffee and also organic tea product . Its a beautiful stop in very relaxing place and atmosphere .

Our last stop during our Bali Ubud Kintamani Tour program is visiting Sebatu Temple . An ancient temple build beside the spring water . The temple is a place where we worship God Wisnu , a God of protector also known as Water’s Lord . Outside the temple in the middle yard area there are two pool with artificial showers . This pool is a place where we do a purification ritual , clean our body and soul from all the bad influence . Inside the main temples area there are few shrines for God manifestation . The main shrine in the middle of north facing to the south is dedicated to Lord Wisnu .

Entering the temple area will bring you a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere . In the outer yard , there are big hall building and beside that building is big pool with big gazebo in the middle of the pool . The pool a big numbers of fresh water fish and some of the with amazing big size .

We had an amazing day and after the last stop we drive back to the Hotel pass through Tegallalang Rice terrace . We didn’t stop but we could see the terrace while we are driving through . It was amazing journey and love to share this experience on my blog with some great pictures in each sites .

Uluwatu Temple in Bali Island

Uluwatu Temple is one of the favorite destination site in the south of Bali . Build right on the Uluwatu cliff , approximately 100 meters above sea level . The temple is a Hindu Temple to worship Lord Siva on his manifestation as Dewa Rudra . The location and the atmosphere surround the area make this site is become the favorite place in Bali indeed .

Uluwatu Temple built around 11 century by the Holly priest Mpu Kuturan . Its written on the inscription of Padma Buwana telling the journey of the priest to Bali island . He come to the island to help the King of Bali to making a concept of Hindu Bali . One concept that will unite all the different sect from the difference. Bali island during this time were rules by King Udayana with his wife Gunapriadarmapatni . The king from Warmadewa Dynasty , One of the biggest Dynasty who rules Indonesia and built few kingdom around Indonesia archipelago including in Bali Aga kingdom . During this time in Bali growing 9 different sect from Hindu . And the King were realize that the different sect that growing in his kingdom were often create a conflict . The story related to Uluwatu Temple

Another story related with Uluwatu temple is the journey of another holly priest around 16 century . Danghyang Dwi Jendra or in Bali known as Pedanda Sakti wawu rawuh . From Java he cross to Bali island to teach Bali peoples the Hindu concept , to strengthen our believes and keeping our Hindu tradition . According the story that he founded his time is end in this world when he arrive at Uluwatu temple . Than he call the fisherman and give his clots and his wooden stick to pass to his wife and children who live in Ubud Mas .

The fisherman left the place and follow what the priest ordered to him , than he never saw the priest anymore . Nowadays Uluwatu Temple become a fantastic tourism site in Bali island . The temple lies on the edge of the cliff facing into Indian ocean . About 100 meters above sea level surrounded by forest as a habitat of long tail monkeys . The monkeys are often appear around the temple . They are quite naughty monkeys who will take anything suspicious from the visitors such as glasses , hat , flip flop and also mobile phone or camera .

To get to Uluwatu temple is quite easy with fairly good road . Approximately 40 minutes from Bali airport , but some time traffic is very bad especially during the Holiday season . Along the way to the temple there are some nice surfing beaches to stop such as Padang beach , Uluwatu Beach , Dreamland beach and many more . Uluwatu area is the paradise area for surfers and beach lover .

Bakas Elephant Camp

our first stop was in Bakas Elephant Camp , approximately 1,5 hours drive from Kuta . We were drive through the south coast on highway toward east . Traffic were fine and not so much trouble along the road . Arrive in the east , we enter toward north from the main road into Bakas village . Wonderful small village road with great rice terrace landscape and the view of the highest volcano in front of us . In Bakas Elephant Camp they take 30 minutes elephant ride through special elephant trek in the camp and also taking picture with Orang Utan . It was great adventure to start the tour indeed .

After lunch at the Camp which is already a part of the package , we continue toward Ubud . First stop before arrive in Ubud was in the hidden waterfall , Bali Kanto Lampo waterfall . The warterfall location is in the center of Gianyar region . Unlike others waterfall which is mostly lies in the mountain side , but this waterfall is just near by the city of Gianyar . The waterfall source is coming from the irrigation canal , the water is flooding and fall down into the rice through the cascade . Its a new hidden site that could be very popular in the future . Sadly will not be hidden site anymore when a big number of tourists coming because if the popularity .

Another stop we made is Tegallalang rice terrace . Located in Ubud district , about 40 minutes drive from Kanto Lampo waterfall . Tegallalang rice terrace is the most famous rice terrace in Bali , due to the location is right in the center of tourist destination . Tegallalang rice terrace is small rice terrace but with very steep terrace from the hill down to the river . After the rice terrace we visit the coffee farm and having coffee break , testing coffee luwak which is the most expensive coffee in the world .

Last place the we stop is Ubud Monkey Forest . The small forest in the center of Ubud town as the habitat of over 600 monkeys . The forest is protected as a conservation forest and open for public from 9 am to 6 pm . Around the well maintain forest there are good pathway to see around the forest and also through the solid wooden bridge on the river . We were spend sometimes to walking around the forest , seeing the monkeys and taking picture with them . Its quite friendly monkeys and get use to the visitors . We leave the forest before dark and drive toward the Hotel . Ubud Monkey Forest was our last place that we visit during our Bali Elephant Ride Combination Tour package , before we heading back to Hotel .

Ulun Danu Temple at Beratan Lake

Ulun Danu Temple is one of the most popular temple in Bali Island . Almost appear in every search regarding Bali island and also as the most visited sites in Bali Island . The favorite place for weekend of local Balinese , due to cold climate and romantic atmosphere . Its a favorite place to visit indeed .

Ulun Danu Temple administratively is belong to Tabanan region , Candi kunung village in the highland of Bedugul area . Approximately 3 hours drive from Bali airport toward northern part of Bali island . The temple lies on the western shore of Beratan lake , one of the biggest among 4 lakes in Bali island . This highland is right in the center of Bali island along the main street that connect south to north Bali . About 1200 meters above sea level with surrounded by mountain make this place is a romantic and misty atmosphere . Its a perfect place to spend your afternoon time indeed . Some shrine are built on the water and as an icon of every picture of Bali photographs .

Ulun Danu Temple is a major temple in Bali , one of the temple among the nine Khayangan Jagat Temples around Bali . Khayangan Jagat is a major Temple in Bali , the temple that built for all Hindu believer all around the world . Here we worship the God on his manifestation as a lord of lake Dewi Danu . For the Bali peoples that the lake is important source for irrigation . Beside that there are also shrine to worship Lord Siva and also Buddhist .

Ulun Danu Temple Tour | Bedugul Tour

The story of Ulun Danu Temple founded on Mengwi inscription . Here written that the temple build around 16 century by I Gusti Agung Putu . He is also the founder of the Mengwi Kingdom . Base on story that he did meditation to worship the God for help to defeat his enemy . He was defeated during the war and return back after meditation on the top of Mount Mangu , beside the lake . After he build Mengwi Kingdom and helping King of Tabanan to defeat all the enemies and than he build the temple in Beratan Lake to worship the God of the mountain for his blessing .

Penataran Agung Temple

The main temple on shore of Beratan Lake to worship the God as Tri Purusa . Siva , Sada Siva and Parama Siva . The temple facing to the south on the left hand side after we entering the main gate of the temple . Inside the huge entrance gate and surrounded by Balinese wall architecture .

Dalem Prajapati Temple

In front of the main gate at the right hand side with huge Banyan three as a parth of the temple . Here we worship Devi Durga or in our local words call Dalem Prajapati , the God of the death .

Dalem Purwa temple

Located by the lake shore on the south gate of the main temple . This shrines also to worship Devi Durga and Lord Ludra on his manifestation as the lord of prosperity . The main gate facing the the east and the bank of the lake .

Lingga Petak Temple

This is the most temple on photographs , built on the water in the east of Penataran Agung temple . There are the main shrine with 11 number of roof , dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Devi Danu . The God on his manifestation who giving the agriculture fertility .

Dalem Prajapati — **The temple where we worship God on his form as Lord Paramesthi Guru and Devi Durga .**

Buddhist Temple

Outside the main gate on the left hand direction facing the the south . Buddhist is a symbol of peace and also giving a harmony of life .

Pura Beji also known as Pura Taman

The temple is located further away in the north side of the Temple complex . The only temple which is separate from the other temple . The purpose of this temple is as a place for purification ceremony or also known for Melasti ceremony temple .

Note : This temple is the most visited temple in Bali Island . Most popular sites for local domestic tourist . The temple will always full and crowded , so morning before 10 am will be the best time and after 3 pm will be less peoples . Avoid to come during weekend holiday .
