Holy Spring Temple  is the important temple for Hindu in Bali . The temple known as Pura Tampaksiring also call Pura Tirta Empul . Located in the east of Ubud , in the town of Tampaksiring district . Along the way to Kintamani or Batur Volcano .

Holy Spring temple is actually the English name of the temple given by the tourist . The name of the temple is actually Pura Tirta Empul or Pura tampak Siring . Holly Spring is name is from the large spring water inside the temple that we believes as a Holly Water . In other words also call Pura Tampaksiring because its located in Tampaksiring village . For Hindu believer in Indonesia especially in Bali island , we believe that the temple is a place to do a purification ritual beside to worship the God . Frequently we will come there for purification rituals to remove all the bad influence in our body and soul . There’s a 3 large pools including some artificial showers as a place for purification ritual . Each artificial showers has a different purpose but in general is to remove all the bad influence .

The lagend of Holy Spring Temple

Talking about the Holy Spring Temple will associated with the legend of Maya Danawa story . Maya Danawa is the name of the king who ruled over Bali . The tyrant King with his powerful magic and supernatural power . On the negative side he won’t believes in God and punish his peoples who doing a religious rituals while he want the peoples worship him as the only God . Because of his magic power he is unbeatable , on the other hand he can use his power to turn himself became any creature .

At the same time , there we live a holly priest call Sang Kulputih . He is actually Ida manik Angkeran ,  he is also known in other legend story . The legend of Manik Angkeran , the greedy prince who turn become a priest after saved from the death . He swear to dedicated a whole of his life for Bali island . The priest were very sad with what happening against Bali peoples . And than he doing a meditation at Besakih temple to ask the God help to destroy the tyranny .

God send Lord Indra , the king of heaven with his heaven troops to attack Maya Danawa . They were a war between King troops and Lord Indra troops , but before dark King Maya Danawa loose the fight . And than he trying to escape and save his life by run to the river . In order to don’t leave the trace , Mayadenawa tilting her feet so that the place was known as Tampaksiring . Near the river he making a poisonous spring water and in the morning the troops of Lord Indra dying because they all drink the water . Lord Indra saw what happening and solve the problem by create the holly water . He stab his weapon into the ground to create the spring water , this spring water is blessed by God to cure all the troops .

After that he order the villagers to build the Temple there to worship the God . Since than the temple in this spring Temple area call Holy Spring Temple or Pura Tirta Empul .  Untill know we believe that the Spring water use for cleaning our body and soul from all the bad influence . This site has attract a lot of tourist , either local of international visitors . Some of them also joining and having a purification ritual as their unique experience while they are in Bali for vacation .

The fight continue , King Maya Danawa trying to escape by turning his form became any kind of form in every different place . In Manukaya village he turn became a roaster that’s way the village call Manukaya , Manuk is a roaster in balinese language . He turn become Timbul fruit in the village which is now call Timbul . In one place he turn become Busung ( young coconut leaf ) than this place known as Blusung village now . In Ubud he turn become an Angel and since than this village call Kedewatan which is mean Angel in English . But all his power can’t save him from the death . Its a God wish when the time is come , he dead after he turn become rock  . The lord Indra firing the arrow pierce the Rock of the Mayadanawa shape . The day he died we celebrate as Galungan Day , the biggest Hindu celebration in Bali island .

Do we believe with the legend ? , as a Balinese will say : ” Yes we believe . But is the legend is really are ? we will say : ” We don’t know .

But as the Balinese we will pass this legend or other Balinese legend and tradition to our generation , its important to preserve our culture and tradition . We proud to be Balinese .

How to reach the holy spring temple

The temple is located just between Ubud and Kintamani . The famous route for day tour in Bali island , the road is fairly good and reachable by any kind of vehicle . Approximately 30 minutes from Ubud town and 1,5 hours – 2 hours from south Bali or Denpasar airport .Entrance ticket is 20.000 per person included Sarong . But please note that the Sarong is only use for entering the temple . For purification rituals you have to use your own or rent in the temple .

Multiple days Bali adventure Tour is our tour review with our Philippine’s clients . Amazing experience with 5 young laddy who visit our island and spend 3 days vacation .

It was another great 3 days adventure tour which is start from the arrival day . We meet around 11pm and drive direct to Tanah Lot Temple . We arrive at the temple after one hour drive from airport . Tanah lot Temple is beautiful temple complex on the sea shore of Beraban vilage . This temple famous with the sunset view over Indian ocean . Its one of the tourist icon in Bali island .
After Tanah lot temple we continue to visit Taman Ayun Temple . But before arrive there we stop for lunch at Babi Guling . Trying the test of local Bali culinary . Babi Guling or known as Suckling pig is one of our popular traditional food .

Known as the Royal temple of Mengwi’s King . The temple is recently awarded as one of world heritage site by UNESCO . Beautiful temple surrounded by wide moat and also beautiful garden . For the visitors only allowed to go around first an second level of temple area.  While the inner area if the temple are closed but we could see from outside . Its beautiful temple complex indeed .Before visiting the temple , we also have chance to visit the king palace . The  Palace which us located just opposite side of the temple .Our clients  first day in Bali  was end after check in at their villa .Taking a rest to get ready for another big adventure for the second day .

Last program on our multiple Days Bali adventure tour is to visit Jimbaran bay . There our clients spend their time for dinner on the beach with fresh seafood grill . It wasn’t great weather even not raining but the wind is quite strong . Jimbaran is a fishing village near Bali airport who has turn become one of most visited place during a sunset time . On the beach area there are many fresh seafood restaurant with romantic setting of the tables set on the white sand beach overlooking into Indian ocean . Well its such a beautiful place for candle light dinner indeed .

Bali Kanto Lampo waterfall is another hidden treasure in Bali island . The waterfall location isn’t so far from Ubud or Kuta area . About 30 minutes drive from Bali safari and marine park . And also the location not in the highland but about in the center of city of Gianyar region . Its really new hidden treasure near Ubud area indeed .

Bali Kanto Lampo waterfall is a brand new tourism industry for Gianyar region . This waterfall is a new waterfall in Bali , were found about a year ago . The waterfall source is from the irrigation canal under the ground . The water probably blocked and falling down through the steep stone that has been there for many years .  This is a blessing for the villagers there . Because of new waterfall attraction will invites visitors to come and also bring fortune for the village .  

Bali Kanto Lampo Waterfall would be our best choice as a place to see near by where you stay . Instead of going far to the north to visit some famous waterfall there . Because of the location in near from Ubud and also from Kuta , therefore would be best as an additional place to visit . To reach this place is not so difficult . Because this place is popular for the local villager around that area . From Gianyar center its about 3 kilometers away , in Beng village , Banjar Kelod Kangin . When  arrive at Beng village gate , you will see the main grave yard of the villagers . Quite big area on the side of the road with huge Banyan three . There you will see small intersection and we take left into local residence village road . From there will be very easy to located the waterfall because the villager provide a sign of Waterfall in every corner of the road .

As soon as we arrive there we will see a small parking for car . From there we need to walk down through the stairs. At the first level of the stairs there will be a small gazebo as the place where you pay the donation . Here in charge few young man from the village, it’s just cost you 5000 per person. The donation will goes to villager and also to maintain that area.  From the villagers information this place is a place where the villager taking a holly water . For some Hindu ritual purpose especially during the temple procession .

Bali Kanto Lampo Waterfall is really amazing place . You won’t regret to chose this place as a new destination of your Bali tour . Not only the place offer a great view of nature , but also the friendly villagers . The villager will not hesitate to help you to walk down to the river , helping you for taking picture and for any assistant needed . You will really need them if you never walk through difficult and steep rock . They never ask for any tips . I guess this is their service to attract more visitors for this place . Padang Padang beach is world popular beach in Bali island indeed . The popularity of this beach is not only for surfing but also for swimming , or just coming for picture taking  . Padang Padang beach is taken from words Padang which is mean grass . The name given by the local because around that area were just bush and also grass that made the beauty were still pure . But that was long time ago when this area isn’t spoil yet by the hustle and bustle tourism industry . It was only few surfers and local villagers who enjoy the nice , quite atmosphere . Sometimes they having night and secret crazy party . But now the tourism development has change the view of the secret beach become one the most popular area in Bali . There are a lots of tourist accommodation from home stay , surfers camp until star Hotel near that area . And also restaurants , modern shop like mini mart , circle K and other for tourism business .

Padang Padang beach located in the southern part of Bali  , in Pecatu village near Uluwatu Temple  .  Reachable by any vehicle , approximately 40 minutes  drive from Kuta center  . Around that area there are also many nice beach that  popular for tourist such as Dreamland beach , Bingin beach , Balangan beach and Blue point beach . The beach is small white shandy beach with crystal clear water , nice wave that make so popular for the surfers . One time in a year there will be a contest of surfing challenge and the professional surfers from all around the world will show up and join the tournament .

In early 1990 , precisely in the year of 1996 one of the famous music band Michael learn to Rock made their video clip in Padang Padang beach . And in 2010 the  famous movie director Ryan Murphy using this place for filming Eat pray and love movie with Julia Robert as the actress . A quite successful movie and boosting the popularity of this beach also some part of Bali island .

Visiting Padang Padang beach is one interesting Bali tour program to the south part of Bali . This beach can combine with some place such as Uluwatu Temple , GWK cultural park and also other nice beaches .

Gesing Village Hidden rice terrace in an explore village in the northern part of Bali . Not like other popular rice terrace in Bali Gesing Rice terrace is a place which is away from tourism crowd .

Approximately 1200 meters above sea level and one of the village under north region . The weather here is cold and with high number of raining in every year . Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is a huge area of rice terrace on the slope of Batukaru mountain . Green , beautiful and scenic view along our eyes can see further . Its just never ending view of rice terrace .

Jatiluwih rice terrace is a huge amazing rice terrace in Bali island . As a Bali driver and tour guide I have been visited this area countless number of time but still this place as one of my favorite place to recommend.  Disregard the bumping road to get into the place, you will get a stunning large amazing rice terrace view.  Especially during the summer day where you can see the view of three high mountain behind the village .  Jatiluwih village is located in Tabanan region, approximately 2 hours drive from  Kuta,  the center of tourist city in Bali  Island.

So will you bother to driver for two hours with a bumping road before entering the area?

I am sure you will say no, it’s just a rice field.  Isn’t a big deal .  But after seeing this few pictures bellow you will say ” made take me there!” .

Jatiluwih is a big agriculture village of rice farming industry where almost 80% of the village area is green rice terrace area.  Jatiluwih rice terrace recently awarded a UNESCO world Heritage site of the nature landscape and the traditional Subak system.  The irrigation system to share, to supply the water equally to each rice terrace.  An ancient great organization set by our ancestors long time before. This Subak System is involved all the rice farmer in the area . The system are  included the water source,  water canal,  temples in each main water source and of course the rice field.

As a tourism village,  the rice terraces are well set up with trekking route along the rice field,  restaurants and some guess house in the village areas . Day trip to Jatiluwih can combine with some interesting site along the area .  Such as Ulundanu temple,  twin Lake view,  Munduk  waterfall as well as Taman Ayun Temple .

Visiting Jatiluwih Rice terrace is a must things to do in Bali if you are nature lover . Drive to Jatiluwih is such interesting drive trough local village , valley and villagers farm . The name of Jatiluwih is drive from words Jati and Luwih which is mean really and good . This name is explain how beautiful , peaceful place to live .

Panglipuran Bali Ancient Village is a small village near Kintamani area . The village that keeping an ancient local tradition and culture in this modernization era . The villagers live in harmonize with nature and live together in strong community system .

On our Bali Tour toward Kintamani we also decide to visit Panglipuran village . The village location is along the way back to our home . Approximately 20 minutes drive from Kintamani . The road are fairly good and wide with green nature and local farm . We need to drive approximately 30 minutes from Kintamani highland . Nice drive along villagers farm and traditional houses along the street . After the bamboo forest there’s a sign of the ancient village . We turn right and drive around 700 meters before arrive at the village . When we arrive we will see a big entrance gate and ticketing desk for the entrance  . It’s cost you 40.000 rupiah per person and 2000 rupiah for the car  .

We park outside the village where there’s a big parking lot . Inside the parking area there’s a big meeting hall building . We call that Bale Banjar , a meeting place and for some villagers even . The outside area of the village are well set up . There’s also a tourist information desk and on the other side there’s a public toilette . The entrance walk  are well maintain with green garden beside the walking path . Some beautiful flowers , threes and green grass .

Panglipuran Bali Ancient village are is quite big area . The area including the residence area , bamboo forest and villagers farm . The overall area of the village is about 112 hectare . Which is divide by 37 hectare of bamboo forest , 49 hectare of the farming area and the rest is for local residence . The population of the village is around 750 peoples . Most of them are a farmer , on the other hand some of them working in the town in the tourism industry . Also some of the teenager are working on the cruise ship as well as working  in other country . The area of the village inside is free area from any vehicle , therefore we can only walk to explore the village area .

Panglipuran Bali Ancient Village story

Panglipuran village is drive from word ‘ Pangeling and Pura which is mean a place to remember . Most of them believe that they are originally coming from the other village called Bayung Gede village . So the name of Panglipuran is for the purpose of remembering where they originally coming from . Because of that in Panglipuran they built the temple which is the same as the temple in Bayung Gede village . On the other hand Panglipuran also mean a resting place .  In short Panglipuran mean a place to remember and also mean a place for vacation . And yet this village has become most popular vacation place for local peoples around Bali .

 

 

 

 

 

Kekeran Busung Biu Rice Terrace is probably not as popular as Jatiluwih and Tegalalang rice terrace . But this place offer the hidden beautify of stunning view of Rice Terrace .

Kekeran Busung Rice Terrace is located in the northern part of Bali Island . Approximately 30 minutes drive from Munduk village , along the way to Pupuan district . From the south its probably take around 3 hours drive . The long distance drive from where the tourist live make this place very less  visitor .

On our way back from Lovina trip , the Sunrise Dolphin Tour . Our client requesting to add Rice Terrace for an additional place to visit before lunch . It was difficult choice if we must go to Jatiluwih rice terrace which is away from our tour direction . Than we decided to discover a new rice terrace view along the way . It’s not difficult to find because Kekeran Rice Terrace is quite popular in the north .

After 30 minutes drive from Banjar Hot Spring , we arrive at the Kekeran rice terrace . Banjar Hot Spring is natural hot spring in the north . This place is apart of our Lovina Dolphin Program . We were amazed with spectacular rice terraces view bellow us . It’s much more scenic than other touristy rice terrace in Bali . Big rice terrace stretching along the valley surrounded by mountains . With the river cut the terrace become two side .  All of this amazing view we can see from the high . Unlike other rice terrace that we could get close but here we will see from up hill .

Kekeran Busung Biu Rice Terrace also  quite popular for European tourists . For thus who love a country side part of Bali . but Even very spectacular sites but very less tourist coming here . Only few European and tourist who staying in the north . It’s perfect place to stay away from tourist crowd , away from hustle and bustle tourism industry .No entrance require but only small coin for parking .

Belok Village Bali Marigold Farm is a new tourist destination site that we discover recently . Located at Belok Village , just right at the border between Plaga village and Kintamani . Few minutes drive from Bangkung bridges , the longest and the tallest bridge in Bali island .

That day was our family trip to Kintamani , our main concern is visit Hot Spring Water at Kintamani . We took unusual drive through Peteng district , Pelaga village and enter Kintamani from behind the volcano . That was amazing drive through stunning view of wonderful green landscapes. We don’t plan to stop at many place but we interested to know where is the location of the Marigold farm . Bali Marigold Farm quite popular spot for local tourist . Recently become a trending topic at the social media . Many teenagers post their selfie picture with beautiful flowers background.

To reach the place isn’t so difficult . Just along the main road toward Kintamani from Petang district. Approximately 1,5 hours drive from Kuta . This place may combine with other interesting site along the way to get there such as Sanger Monkey forest , Chocolate pod factory and Bali Elephant Camp . So we will not bother to drive for such long hours , there are few recommended stopping sites along the way . As soon as we enter the village , we will amazed with beautiful landscape . The terraces with beautiful yellow color , calm and cold weather surrounded by mountains . Fresh smell of the flowers bring us a wonderful feeling . It’s sooooo amazing place ! Can’t describe but we can share the pictures here .

Marigold is one of the important flowers for offering in Bali . From the simple offering until big even of Hindu celebration . In India this flowers use for wedding even beside for offerings . The yellow color of the flower is symbol of love and charm . For spiritual beliefs that the flowers will protect the couples from gossip and to protect them from sharp tongue . However the flower olso as a form of cruilty and jealousy  . In Hindu we beliefs with what we call Rwa Bineda . Two things different in life , everything has good and bad thing .
